FAQ

Questions? Here are your answers.

Q. Do you have any testimonials from your clients?

A. As a matter of fact, I do! Professor Curtis J. Bonk of Indiana University wrote: “Donna was my copyeditor for my book, The World Is Open: How Web Technology Is Revolutionizing Education, published by Jossey-Bass/Wiley. Donna was so prompt, creative, insightful, personable, encouraging, and brilliant with suggestions, that I asked her to help me with https://mskguru.ru/moskovskaya-oblast a spin-off project, “The World Is More Open.” She is absolutely the best copyeditor I have worked with in many books or book chapter projects. The range of topics she knows about is unmatched. I am, in fact, more than a tad jealous of her Donna’s English skills. And so, I anticipate working with her again and recommending her to others quite highly. Hire her. You will not be disappointed.”

And Jake Breeden (“Leader of workshops. Giver of speeches. Writer of books. Tipper of sacred cows.”) said: “Donna was my editor for Tipping Sacred Cows: Kick the Bad Work Habits That Masquerade as Virtues. She helped me write the book I wanted to write. Donna’s approach is to do the hard work to understand the author’s argument, and then help make that argument compelling. She does more than make suggestions or corrections. Donna helped me articulate concepts with just the right phrases and examples, and she helped turn interesting ideas into practical prose. If you get the chance to work with Donna, you will be lucky enough to see your project turn into the most compelling, fully realized version possible.”

A. My fee varies depending on the type of project and how much help you need, but the Editorial Freelancers Association rate chart will give you a good ballpark idea. I usually work on a per-hour rate but can also quote by the page. I encourage you to send me a sample of your work, along with basic information about your project and what you’re looking for in an editor.

Q. What should I look for in an editor?

Your ideal editor is someone who is: (1) honest with you and respectful of your writing and your author’s voice; (2) exceptionally knowledgeable of English grammar and able to research the finer points; (3) blessed with an eagle eye; and (4) willing to go the extra mile to ensure that your finished product expresses what you had in mind when you started drafting your book, article, novel, or story.
